2022 National Bank Open presented by Rogers Draw Announced at CN Tower

The draw for the 2022 National Bank Open presented by Rogers took place at the iconic CN Tower in downtown Toronto. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek and World No. 14 Leylah Annie Fernandez assisted with the draw, which was attended by Tournament Director Karl Hale, Senior Vice President, Professional Events at Tennis Canada Gavin Ziv, WTA Supervisor Claire Wood, and Tournament Referee Tony Cho.

The 2022 National Bank Open will feature five Canadians in the main draw. Led by 2021 US Open finalist Leylah Annie Fernandez, who will face a qualifier in the first round. 2019 National Bank Open champion Bianca Andreescu will begin her tournament on Tuesday evening against World No. 12 Daria Kasatkina and will be ready to impress in her hometown. Rounding out the rest of the Canadian players are Rebecca Marino (vs. Qinwen Zheng), Carol Zhao (vs. Amanda Anisimova), and Katherine Sebov (vs. Yulia Putintseva).

Former World No. 1 and Grand Slam champions Serena and Venus Williams will also play first round matches. Serena Williams, who was awarded a Top 20 Wild Card and will face a qualifier in the first round; while her sister Venus Williams (Wild Card) will face Jil Teichmann in her first round match.

Swiatek, the 2022 Roland Garros champion, will receive a bye in the first round as the tournament’s top seed and play either Shelby Rogers or Veronika Kudermetova on Wednesday August 10. In an extremely competitive draw, the World No. 1 could potentially face Fernandez in the third round and Serena Williams in the quarter-finals.

The star-studded main draw includes 15 Grand Slam champions including 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, Sloane Stephens Sofia Kenin.

Following Friday’s Draw Ceremony, potential quarter-final match-ups could include:

  • Swiatek vs. Muguruza
  • Sakkari vs. Jabeur
  • Badosa vs. Pegula
  • Kontaveit vs. Sabalenka
