Players take to social media to congratulate Ash Barty on her Roland-Garros win

June 10, 2019

It was an incredible week of tennis at Roland-Garros – the second Grand Slam event of the season – which saw Australia’s Ashleigh Barty emerge as the unlikely champion given her lack of experience on clay courts. Nevertheless, the likable and versatile Aussie captured hearts around the globe… but apparently already had the hearts of her fellow players!

Here’s what Ash’s tennis colleagues had to say about her victory.

Compatriot Nick Kyrgios found this hilarious photoshopped pic of a younger Barty and shared it with Twitter!

Daria Gavrilova made sure not to jinx her close friend throughout the tournament! It really paid off!

Barty’s 2019 doubles partner, Victoria Azarenka, kept it short and sweet.

Current World No. 5 Petra Kvitova gave a shout-out to Barty on Twitter, so she thought. She accidentally tagged the wrong account, but quickly corrected herself!

It seems Barty is an amazing person on and off the court, according to World No. 19 Julia Goerges.

2018 Roland-Garros champion Simona Halep was very pleased to see such a great competitor take over the mantle as reigning champion.

In a heart-warming congratulations, Andrea Petkovic (with that adorable pic!) recounted her third-round loss to the No. 8 seed.

Semi-final opponent Madison Keys couldn’t agree more with Petkovic’s statement of Barty kicking everyone’s butt!

Last year’s Roland-Garros finalist Sloane Stephens wants the now-World No. 2 to enjoy the aftermath of winning a Grand Slam. These types of moments don’t come around every day!

Former tennis player and Ash’s good friend Casey Dellacqua had by far the best heartfelt message for Barty.
