It was a brilliant day for France in the qualifying event of the National Bank Open presented by Rogers at IGA Stadium in Montréal.

Indeed, three French women fought their way into the main draw, which gets underway on Monday. What’s more, the trio was almost a quartet.

Only Kristina Mladenovic (2) bowed out to Anastasia Potapova (10) of Russia in two sets (7-6 (5), 6-2) and stopped the French sweep.

Caroline Garcia (6), Clara Burel (11) and Océane Dodin (13) all triumphed.

Garcia disposed of Kristie Ahn of the US (7-6 (3), 6-3), while Burel battled hard against Heather Watson (4) of Great Britain (1-6, 6-4, 6-4). As for Océane Dodin, she easily outmaneuvered Ann Li (5) of the US (6-1, 6-4).

The other four survivors are Alison Van Uytvanck (1) of Belgium, who ousted Jule Niemeier of Germany in three sets, Tereza Martincova of Czechia, who bettered Polona Hercog of Slovenia in two, and Harriet Dart of Great Britain who defeated Christina McHale of the US.
